HARARE,  (NNN-NEW ZIANA) — Consultations for Zimbabwe’s Mid-Term Plan to be launched in March are progressing well with the government reviewing feedback from key stakeholders, according to the Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr Desire Sibanda.

He told New Ziana here Monday that consultation teams had so far brought findings from Gweru, Bulawayo and Masvingo. “We are almost through and consultations are being done from grassroots, that is at district level right up to provincial levels,” he said.

“There is a need for everyone to appreciate what the blueprint will be all about and the need for them to participate in its formulation.”

Dr Sibanda said the government was in the middle of reviewing comments it had so far received from stakeholders. “We are reviewing the comments in documents compiled by the consultation teams. We will take into account input we are getting from stakeholders.”

The economic blueprint, which is part of the government’s efforts to improve economic growth, is meant to consolidate gains of other development strategies such as the Short Term Economic Recovery Plan (STERP), the 100-Day Plan, the Government Work Plan and Budgetary framework.

Dr Sibanda said the economic blueprint would serve as a poverty reduction strategy paper.
“This national document will border on a number of fundamentals and it will also concentrate on the attainment of Millennium Development Goals,” he said.

“It will include measures on ways to reduce poverty as well as improve economic growth and development.” — NNN-NEW ZIANA
