Zimbabwean groups to feature at Malawi music festival in October

Festival founder Will Jameson said popular Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi is expected to be one of the main acts during the “Lake of Stars Malawi Festival 2010” scheduled for October 15-17 in Mangochi.

Other Zimbabwean groups scheduled to participate at the festival are United Kingdom-based Shingai Shonhiwa and her Noisettes band, Tinashe Shonhiwa and Makoomba, the 2008 winners of the annual Music Crossroads competition meant for southern African musicians aged under-25 years.

Dubbed “The Stars are Coming Home – Malawi’s ‘World Cup of the Arts’”, the festival will feature a strong line-up that also comprises other top African musicians from Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, Malawi, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Among the artists to play at the festival are Malawian R&B singer Peter Mawanga, Ivory Coast bafalon player Aly Keita and South African jazz crooner Nomfusi.

The musical event is in its seventh edition this year.
